Drawing Class at ASLD

The Arts Student League of Denver is offering a drawing class with Daniel Sprick. His work is incredible:

Click here to see his website. Here is some more info on his working style.

From the League:

Daniel Sprick’s paintings transcend easy categorization. His work is celebrated by both traditional and contemporary art enthusiasts. He melds exceptional technique with insight, passion and meaning. His paintings call to mind the perfection of earlier Northern European masters such as Vermeer. Just as Vermeer limited his world view to his home, Sprick’s paintings are set in his studio. His subjects are firmly grounded in life in the 21st century, yet hint of a metaphysical complexity beyond what we see. An apple, a seashell, and a human skull are each presented with an intellectual rigor that is balanced by a sensuality of touch and presence that is riveting and magical.

“I can’t really articulate it but it’s everything that I experience: it’s my mental state; it’s my desire for perfection to the extent that I can reach it; it is my pride in craftsmanship.”

  1. Patty, I'm lovin' the blog. When/Where is our next meeting? Do you know about Robert Genn's email newsletter? The following is from today's and sounded like a backup plan for our Member Show OR a possibility for another year?

"Esoterica: These days, artists are doing all kinds of creative things to thrive. The "home show" is making a comeback. This is where an artist secures a friend's upscale home and makes it look like an art gallery for a day's bonanza. A nice touch is when a favorite charity is included in the party. With direct sales, the artist is better able to facilitate future trades..."

  2. I do receive Robert Genn's newsletter, Marie. Thanks for bringing this up. I'll mention it in a future post, however, if anyone wants to subscribe, they can do so here: http://www.painterskeys.com/. He usually has interesting insights to mull over.

I think home shows are a great idea, maybe our group could do one once a month in different places.
